Title:
SOU 5080 leads train #220
Description:
6.23.1981 Charlotte. Taken on the mainline that passes through the former township of Newell located on the northern suburbs of Charlotte, SOU 5080 leads a quartet northbound powering train #220, Southern's hotshot TOFC/COFC consist at the time. If you look closely you'll see a crewman leaning out of the window of the lead engine waving with both hands. Train operators were so much more friendly back then.

Title:
Still Southern, mostly
Description:
Two years after the NS merger, there was still a lot of predecessor power around. This set was on a train at Danville KY on the Rathole. There's more to it than meets the eye. The leader is obvious, one of the unusual high short hood GP 30's only NW and Southern got; the third unit is ex Central of Georgia and carries its C of G number. The trailing unit is actually at home; it's sublettered for the CNO&TP.
